
The apartment of the best swimmer in the history of Belarus was confiscated and then sold at auction.
Although it wasn't the first time she achieved this. Alexandra Gerasimenya has two Olympic silver medals and a bronze.
She was also a world champion. In 2020, the athlete supported the protests. Afterward, she was forced to flee the country to escape persecution. Gerasimenya was sentenced in absentia to 12 years for allegedly calling for sanctions. The authorities seized all her property.
Including a car, $50,000 in bank accounts, and the apartment where the athlete was registered. A minor was also registered there, so by law, it was impossible to sell the apartment at auction. But it was sold anyway.
A four-room apartment on Filimonova Street in Minsk was offered for sale three times. First, for 942,000 rubles, then for 753,000, and then finally for 565,000.
The apartment only sold on the fourth try: for 661,000 rubles. Alexandra herself said the apartment belonged to a relative.
