Thailand continues military action against Cambodia after Trump's ceasefire announcement
Thai Prime Minister Anutin Chanvirakun said armed hostilities against Cambodia continue despite US President Donald Trump's announcement of a ceasefire.
The statement came in the morning, the day after Trump's words about his mediation.
In a post on his Facebook page, Chanvirakoon emphasized that what happened cannot be considered a random incident. He stated that Thailand will continue military action until the authorities are convinced that the country and its citizens are no longer in danger. He added that the Thai side's actions this morning confirm this position.
The day before, Donald Trump reported on the social media platform TruthSocial that, following phone calls with the prime ministers of Thailand and Cambodia, the two sides had allegedly agreed to an immediate ceasefire and return to previously reached agreements. Trump claimed that the fighting was expected to cease that evening.
The US President called the mine explosion, which killed and injured Thai military personnel, an “accident” and described Thailand's response as “very harsh.”
