Telegram founder Pavel Durov announced the launch of a paid subscription in June 2022. It will provide an opportunity to get additional features, but the free version will be retained, and all existing features will remain available.
Durov wrote about this on his page in Telegram. He explained this decision by the need to pay for servers. Like, to allow users to download more content, you need to significantly increase the company’s costs.
“After thinking about it, we realized that the only way to allow our most demanding fans to get more while keeping our existing features free is to make these increased restrictions a paid option. That’s why we will introduce Telegram Premium this month,” wrote Durov.
What will the subscription give:
-
being the first to use new features;
-
increase file size limits;
-
premium reactions to messages.
Note that earlier Telegram also launched paid advertising. However, these revenues were probably not enough. “While our experiments with privacy-focused advertising in one-to-many public channels have been more successful than we expected, I believe that Telegram should be funded primarily by users, not advertisers. This way, our users will always remain ours.” top priority,” Durov wrote.
