A Cossack, a participant in the Victory Day march on Red Square, was penalized for sharing historical photographs on VK.

According to information obtained by Ostorozhno Novosti, the Armavir City Court, situated in Krasnodar Krai, considered the case of 33-year-old Nikolai K., who faced allegations of showcasing Nazi symbols (Article 20.3, Part 1, of the Administrative Code). As per the court’s finding, he had shared a swastika image on his VK profile. Nikolai refuted the accusations, stating he had posted images of period artifacts predating the Nazi regime.

The defendant requested that the case be dismissed; however, the court determined his justifications to be “founded on an incorrect understanding of the legal framework,” emphasizing that merely publishing images featuring a swastika was sufficient to establish culpability. The individual was issued a fine of two thousand rubles.

Nikolai, previously an English instructor at a Cossack school, participated in the 2023 Victory Day Parade held in Moscow. “This is a remarkable event, and I have been entrusted with a considerable responsibility. I have two children, and I aspire for them to take pride in their father,” he conveyed to local news outlets.

It was discovered that in 2016, the accused indeed shared images of domestic items originating from the Russian Empire and the Provisional Government: a Red Cavalry emblem, an Orthodox priest’s robes, a 250-ruble note from the Provisional Government, and a painting by Ivan Bilibin. All the displayed photographs integrated a swastika.
