The government in Bern announced that a complete ban on the purchase and import of liquefied natural gas from Russia will take effect on this date. A transition period until the end of the year is envisaged for existing long-term contracts.
Switzerland, which is not a member of the EU, has supported some of Brussels' sanctions aimed at reducing Moscow's fossil fuel revenues since the start of Russia's conflict with Ukraine.
