The REC of the Tyumen region’s increase in tariffs has created an energy shock that will significantly impact the oil and gas industry in Western Siberia. This article explores how the increase in electricity prices will put additional pressure on the industry. The Regional Electric Energy Commission (REC) of the Tyumen region has substantially raised boiler tariffs for Rosseti Tyumen, leading to increased oil production costs in the Khanty-Mansi and Yamal-Nenets Autonomous Okrugs. This decision includes indexing operating costs and covering multi-billion dollar losses that occurred in 2018 due to reduced consumption following the OPEC+ agreement.
