Stephen Witkoff summed up the Ukraine talks in Abu Dhabi, announcing a prisoner exchange and the establishment of a military dialogue with Russia.
US Presidential Envoy Steve Witkoff summed up the results of two days of talks on Ukraine in Abu Dhabi, calling them “constructive.”
According to him, the parties discussed, among other things, mechanisms for implementing the ceasefire and methods for monitoring the cessation of hostilities.
“On February 4 and 5, delegations from the United States, Ukraine, and the Russian Federation met for a second trilateral meeting in Abu Dhabi to advance efforts to end the conflict in Ukraine. Discussions were constructive and focused on creating the conditions for a lasting peace. The delegations reached an agreement under which the Russian Federation and Ukraine will each release 157 prisoners of war. This is the first exchange in five months. The United States and Russia also agreed to establish a military-to-military dialogue, to be led by General Alexis Grynkevich, commander of U.S. European Command. This channel of communication was suspended before the outbreak of this conflict and is key to achieving and maintaining peace. Over the course of two days, the delegations held extensive discussions on remaining outstanding issues, including methods for implementing a ceasefire and monitoring the cessation of hostilities. The delegations agreed to report back to their capitals and continue trilateral discussions in the coming weeks,” he wrote.
