And what does Dmitry Firtash, the Russian mafia and the US president have to do with it.
Perhaps everyone has heard of revelations head of the Main Intelligence Directorate Kirill Budanov about the banker Denis Kireev (on the right in the photo), who died at the hands of SBU operatives. In particular, the head of the GUR said that it was Kireev who on February 23 warned the intelligence about the attack of the aggressor country. Allegedly, he transmitted data from Russian sources that helped prepare for the defense of the capital. According to Budanov, Kireev indicated that the Russians would land at the Antonov airport in Gostomel. Kireev’s tip “gave Ukraine a few precious hours to deploy troops to counter the Russian offensive.”
“If not for Mr. Kireev, most likely, Kyiv would have been taken,” Budanov said.
We will omit the fact that Western colleagues and officials warned Budanov and the Supreme Commander personally of the impending Russian invasion long before Kireev. Let’s keep silent about the fact that Kyiv was completely unprepared for defense. All this is a topic for a separate discussion. In court after the war.
As he writes in his review for the project Grom. Yaroslav Garmash, now we will talk about another spy story, one of the characters in which was Denis Kireev.
February 13, 2022. There are only a few days left before the large-scale invasion of the aggressor country, and a few weeks before the extrajudicial execution of Denis Kiriev. An investigative film appears on Channel 5, where, among other things, it is stated that Denis Kireev is an agent of the enemy special services.
This is an important detail. Since this particular film is almost the only “legalization” in a more or less serious media of the narrative that Kireev is a traitor (I remind you: it is believed that it was suspicions of working for the enemy that led to Kireev’s fatal meeting with SBU operatives). However, in this “movie” the spy episode is remembered as if in passing. How is Thorner related to him?
Denis Kireev is an antagonist here, the embodiment of evil, using his connections in the special services in order to ruin the life of the main protagonist. Dmitry Torner plays the role of the latter (the authors of the film call him a “middle businessman”).
How the plot is assembled, its pattern, and the fact that Thorner’s lawyer Andrey Tsygankov is the key speaker in this “masterpiece” raises a reasonable suspicion that we are dealing with a standard custom-made “investigation”. And the customer is obvious.
Here it would not be out of place to dwell a little on the person of the defender Dmitry Torner.
Andrei Tsygankov was often mentioned as the chief of staff of the Kyiv battalion “Michael’s Archangels”, whose commander was considered the infamous Mikhail Maiman. It is worth noting that the volunteer formation No. 14 of the territorial community of the city of Kyiv “Michael’s Archangels” is not included in the Forces of the TrO of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, its participants do not have the right to bear arms now.
Tsygankov as a lawyer has a long scandalous track record. Among his clients were such ambiguous characters as the king of the “Russian mafia” Semyon Mogilevich, the embezzler-horse breeder Alexander Onishchenko, who is hiding from justice (by the way, Tsygankov managed a lot with the latter). ugly). But, perhaps, the most disgusting episode in Tsygankov’s lawyer practice is his participation in the fabrication of a criminal case against Dmitry Polyukhovich. An innocent man spent long months behind bars because of false accusations of molesting his own young children.
Another important circumstance: it is likely that Tsygankov has strong ties in the Security Service of Ukraine, whose employees on March 5 last year shot Denis Kireev, a suspect (at that time) of treason, a sworn enemy of Dmitry Torner, Tsygankov’s client, in Kyiv on March 5 last year. As we wrote earlier, last May, the esbeshniks actually helped Tsygankov to “press” Maiman, with whom Torner’s lawyer had major disagreements.
If you look, Denis Kireev and Dmitry Torner are almost relatives. They slander that Torner was married to Tatyana the Terrible (nee Sergienko), who is allegedly Kireev’s sister. According to the lawyer Tsygankov (by the way, widely circulated in Internet publications, clearly on a commercial basis in January 2022), Thorner had a more than strained relationship with his ex-wife, because of which her now deceased brother persecuted Thorner in the media. This version is confirmed by one “black” political strategist, who even admits that he allegedly aided Kireeva in organizing a media attack on Torner.
It is noteworthy that two months before the appearance in the media of the first accusations of Kireev by the servants of Dmitry Torner, someone leaked a photo of Thorner to the mediataken on February 3, 2021. Everything would be fine, but on it Dmitry Torner enters the Office of the President of Ukraine. Given all the facets of the personality of this character, the publication caused a small political scandal.
As stated in the investigation of the “Schemes” project, shortly before the visit to the OPU, Dmitry Torner was removed from the international wanted list, and the criminal proceedings regarding the use of false passports by him were closed in Ukraine.
My colleagues recalled that on the eve of the elections to the Verkhovna Rada in 2019, the then head of the SBU Ivan Bakanov and the already former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Arsen Avakov publicly called on the CEC to exclude Dmitry Torner from the electoral list of the Opposition Platform – For Life (it is very significant that our hero was eager to politics under the banner of the “fifth column” of the Kremlin). Then law enforcement officers said that he was actually a citizen of Moldova, Dmitry Nekrasov, who was “hiding from international justice.”
The President’s Office did not respond to a request from journalists to tell who exactly and on what issues Torner-Nekrasov came to Bankovaya.
According to the Ukrainian investigation, Dmitry Torner escaped from prisons in Moldova, came to Ukraine and made himself several Ukrainian passports with different surnames: five internal and four foreign – all allegedly on the basis of forged documents. Using these passports, according to security officials, he illegally crossed the Ukrainian border. An audit by the State Migration Service found that the documents were invalid.
“Schemes” note that in 2003-2004 in Moldova, Torner, then Nekrasov, was convicted on a number of articles: embezzlement of property on an especially large scale, fraud, drug-related activities, as well as theft or damage to documents. Torner almost immediately fled from the place of restriction of liberty and was put on the wanted list by Moldova.
Torner linked to the murder of Denis Kireev?
The case was closed in 2018. Torner’s lawyer convinced Moldovan law enforcement officers that his client “did not escape from the place of serving his sentence, but simply did not return there” after he was allowed to leave the institution for five days – and he was removed from the wanted list. Subsequently, the defender, referring to the expiration of the statute of limitations, achieved through the court release from criminal punishment.
Torner received a new Moldovan passport and position: in January 2021, he headed the Biathlon Federation of Moldova. He also had influential connections – journalists talk about a meeting with the then pro-Russian President of Moldova Igor Dodon and his associates.
In Ukraine, in 2019, proceedings were opened against Torner under two articles – on the likely use of forged documents and illegal border crossing. Later, another article was added – “fraud”. As the journalists established, the subject received suspicion in two of these episodes and, according to the court decision, was supposed to be in a pre-trial detention center for the duration of the investigation, but left Ukraine.
Almost a year later, in August 2020, the Prosecutor General’s Office closed the proceedings against Firtash’s associate. At the request of Schemes, the Office of the Prosecutor General only noted that the decision to close was “legal and justified.”
According to Schemes, Dmitry Torner is likely to have Russian citizenship. And his main place of residence is Austria. According to sources of journalists who have access to the border crossing base, it is from Vienna that Torner has been flying to Ukraine in recent years. In particular, in February 2021, in order to get to the aforementioned meeting at the Office of President Zelensky.
We dare to assume that the Moldavian Dmitry Torner rides to Ukraine by no means in order to visit children from previous marriages. It’s no secret that he “decided” the disgraced oligarch Firtash, who made a huge fortune on the supply of Russian gas. Dmitry Firtash once successfully landed on a gas pipe thanks to his connections with the Russian special services and mafia boss Semyon Mogilevich (another client of the Kyiv lawyer Andrey Tsygankov).
In January 2020, the authoritative American edition of The Washington Post published an article under the heading “How Giuliani’s outreach to Ukrainian gas tycoon wanted in US shows lengths he took in his hunt for material to bolster Trump“. It says that in May 2019, an unequivocal meeting took place in a prestigious Parisian cigar bar, Rudolf Giuliani, personal lawyer at the time of US President Trump, and two Soviet émigrés Lev Parnassus and Igor Fruman. At the same meeting, our hero, a representative of the oligarch Firtash, Dmitry Torner, was present.
The gentlemen have gathered to discuss a pressing issue. Giuliani, Parnassus and Fruman were interested in compromising evidence on the future President Joe Biden (I remind you that the US presidential election was held in 2020). Dmitry Torner, in exchange for compromising evidence, tried to make the American Themis not too zealously seek the extradition of his boss Dmitry Firtash from Austria, Torner is connected with him. The publication writes that after Giuliani’s rendezvous with Thorner, Firtash’s extradition was blocked.
A month later, Giuliani sat down at the negotiating table in London with other representatives of the oligarch, later Firtash’s lawyers released a document in court that allegedly testifies to Biden’s corruption.
As stated in a recent article in The New York Times, this is an affidavit given by the former Prosecutor General of Ukraine Viktor Shokin. Prosecutor “on vacation” in September 2019. Shokin said that Biden forced him to release Burisma, whose board included Hunter Biden, the son of the current US president, from inspection as part of a corruption scheme. Despite ample evidence that he was the one who slowed down the case against Burisma, Shokin maintained that he was conducting a wide-ranging investigation. Firtash also obtained affidavits from the ex-prosecutor as part of his own legal battle – in which Shokin suggested that Firtash’s bribery case was politically motivated – and all this apparently got to Giuliani through mutual partners.
As you can see, Dmitry Torner is a figure of considerable interest not only for the criminal investigation department, but also for intelligence. And, quite possibly, his conflict with the spy Kireev could have been provoked not only and not so much by family “showdowns”. Another question is how much the death of Denis Kireev is connected with this.
