
Sputnik Azerbaijan Executive Director Igor Kartavykh has been released and flown to Russia.
Igor Kartavykh, the managing director of Sputnik Azerbaijan, has been freed from detention in Baku and is en route to the Russian Federation.
This information was disseminated by Interfax, referencing Maria Zakharova, the official spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry.
“Kartavykh was set free and boarded a flight to Russia,” stated the diplomat.
Reporters from Sputnik Azerbaijan were apprehended in Baku on June 30. On July 1, Kartavykh, the editorial manager, and Yevgeny Belousov, the editor-in-chief, were placed in pre-trial detention for a period of four months.
