“Something will be collected there”: Avtovaz became the owner of the former Nissan plant in St. Petersburg
In the cultural capital, the company, which previously belonged to Nissan, became the property of AvtoVAZ. The news is good, but after it the following question arose: what will be produced at the plant?
Auto expert Igor Morzharetto, as well as the head of the Department of Management Theory and Business Technologies, Professor Valery Maslennikov answered it in a conversation with a journalist from the FBA “Economics Today”.
It is reported that the St. Petersburg cluster will be engaged in a joint production with one of the Chinese companies, and the stake will be made on SKD machines. “It is possible to produce cars both under the LADA brand and under a different name. Logistics in St. Petersburg has been established, AvtoVAZ has experience, the Nissan team has remained. Something will be assembled there, although it is not yet clear which models,” said Morzharetto.
However, according to Professor Maslennikov, the main thing is to save jobs, as well as the economy: “This decision will first of all save jobs, because without it there will be a catastrophe in the industry, and secondly, we have assets that can be used in the interests of Russia . The conversation is not about the money left from Nissan, but about the real economy, which the President of the Russian Federation spoke about in his speeches.”
The head of the department also stressed that the technological level of this production will fall, as the domestic industry was not ready for such sharp turns. So we cannot do without the help of friendly countries (Iran and China). We can safely conclude that today Russia will primarily seek to satisfy the demand, and not the desires of customers.
