A new manager at Ukrposhta may cost about UAH 16 million. per year (1 million 330 thousand UAH per month) – reported this ex-Minister of Economic Development of Ukraine Aivaras Abromavicius.
The ex-minister emphasized that Smilyansky will receive this money only if the company he heads begins to work effectively, and the manager shows concrete results – 75% of this amount comes from bonuses.
“It’s a lot of money, by our standards, but there’s no other way,” says Abromavicius. “Are we really flattering ourselves with the illusion that the head of a company with a billion-dollar turnover will work for the official 10-20 thousand UAH per month, not steal and protect the interests of state?
Let us remind you that the contract with Igor Smelyansky, whose candidacy was recently approved by the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine for the post of General Director of Ukrposhta, has not yet been signed by the Minister of Infrastructure. It was reported that Smelyansky put forward the condition that his salary at Ukrposhta should not only be no less than what he now receives at the American auditing company KPMG, but also compensate him for the difficulties of moving to Ukraine and possible reputational risks – i.e. We are talking about a salary of seven hundred and fifty thousand dollars a year.
It was also reported that the Ministry of Infrastructure does not have any special salary fund for the heads of state-owned companies and this salary must be paid to them by the state-owned enterprise, so it is unknown how such a high salary for the manager will be perceived by the Ukrposhta workforce.
