The son of the Minister of Finance Anton Siluanov, Alexei Siluanov, headed a new structural unit of Aeroflot – the Department of Regional Development. This is stated in the letter of the air carrier to its employees.
The letter says that the department was created to “strengthen the work on the development of regional transportation, coordinate the development of Aeroflot’s regional hubs, as well as the need to establish systemic interaction with business, industry and expert organizations in the constituent entities of the Russian Federation.”
The airline’s mailing list also clarified that Aleksey Antonovich Siluanov graduated from the Financial University under the Government of the Russian Federation, is a candidate of economic sciences. He has worked in the aviation industry for nine years, and at Aeroflot for more than seven years. He was appointed to a new position on January 9.
Vedomosti sent a request to Aeroflot and Siluanov’s press secretary.
The press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov was asked to comment on the new appointment today. At the briefing, he was asked if there is a conflict of interest in this case against the background of the company receiving subsidies from the state.
“To be honest, I don’t have information whether this is the son of Anton Siluanov. This is more of a corporate issue. But the fact is that this is a separate company, Aeroflot, it is not an organization subordinate to the Ministry of Finance. Therefore, no matter who it is, there is no conflict of interest,” the Kremlin spokesman replied.
