Many media wrote about the high-profile divorce of Natalia Okunskaya and Sergey Vlasenko. Who is right and who is wrong in the history of their family, alas, is already determined by the court. Moreover, the case, one way or another, did not remain exclusively Ukrainian: Natalia received political asylum in France. Her interview is hot, emotional, perhaps somewhat biased, but deserves attention. We are ready to listen to the second point of view of this conflict.

Ukrainian surprise for French lawyers

France is one of the founding countries of the EU. It is very difficult to get asylum there even for politicians. Why did you have to flee from Ukraine to this EU country?

– The main reason for this choice was that the justice of France does not depend on politics. This is a country where the case is carefully and unbiasedly studied. Having received all the documents on the beatings and bullying that I had to endure, they managed to figure everything out. As a result, I received political asylum. In fact, this is a refuge from Sergei Vlasenko and the Tymoshenko party.

The French authorities really take refugees very seriously. As far as I know, over the past few years, they have not denied asylum only to me. My dossier is about 500 pages long. It talks about repressions against me, the use of political resources. Probably, the French were impressed by such cruelty, cynicism with which a politician destroys his former family.

There are many points that in France are recognized as unacceptable by Vlasenko. For example, the issue of child abandonment. In Europe, this is considered savagery. Even someone who tried to do such a thing, say, in France, would instantly become “shake hands”, immediately lost his mandate and the opportunity to pursue a political career.

Why did I drop everything and run with four kids? I had no other choice. At home, 5 criminal cases were brought against me. They wanted to imprison me for a very long time for no reason.

What are these criminal cases?

– My ex-husband opened the first criminal case in France regarding the kidnapping of a child from Ukraine. Although I have all the documents confirming that the children crossed the border absolutely legally. The prosecutor’s office and the police took over me. As a result, I received several lawsuits in Paris.

My daughter Polina came to one of the court hearings and said: “He hasn’t dealt with me for 9 years, he doesn’t pay child support, he doesn’t call me. He absolutely doesn’t pay any attention to me. I want to live with my mother.”

In some miraculous way, Vlasenko won this process. Then the daughter called him and said: “You won. And how are you going to carry out this decision? Take me by force? Put me in a bag?”

After this, the relationship between Polina and Vlasenko finally deteriorated. She said that until he refused to comply with this decision, she did not want to know him.

Nevertheless, he took Polina. We repeatedly asked him to sign a peace treaty. Very simple world. No alimony. Let only the girl live in Paris, and she can see him freely, as long as he wants.

But that did not happen. As of today, in Ukraine and France, he has already filed several lawsuits against me. I think it’s just out of spite. To deprive me of the opportunity to live and work normally. Being a political refugee in France is already difficult with money. And here you also have to pay large sums to lawyers. Somehow you need to protect yourself.

My acquaintances say that there are already several cases against me in Kyiv. Even started the process of recognizing me insane. Given Vlasenko’s belonging to the Batkivshchyna pariah, I have no doubt that he will succeed.

– What do you have in mind?

– Political connections. There are people who at one time were either in the Cabinet of Ministers of Yulia Tymoshenko or secretly worked for her. Many still retain their influence and position. Ironically, the head of the Verkhovna Rada committee on human rights is now the deputy head of the “Fatherland” Hryhoriy Nemyria.

– Do you think he has anything to do with the case you lost in France?

– But why then, the trial I lost was a complete surprise for my French lawyers. They did not even think that in the EU a child who has been living with his mother for 9 years could suddenly be given to his father. Separate a child against his will from his two brothers and sister. Especially considering that I cannot return to Ukraine. Otherwise, I will be deprived of the status of a political refugee.

Moreover, I was also ordered to pay Vlasenko 6,000 euros, which I supposedly owe him. Imagine, I am a single mother and a refugee, I owe not the last person Tymoshenko. Look at his income statement. For Vlasenko, my 6 thousand euros are a miserable penny. Simply, he decided on principle to rob me to the skin.

Now my lawyer is filing several cassation complaints at once. Both in Ukraine and two cassations in France. And if this does not help, I will apply to the European Court, I am ready to tell everyone the truth about the cynicism and principles of this man Tymoshenko.

Asked for help from Tymoshenko

– And now Sergei Vlasenko himself is participating in litigation?

– Over the past 8 years, in my opinion, he almost never appeared in the courtroom. True, he recently arrived in France and spent an hour in court telling that he was a people’s deputy, a very famous politician. For some reason, he announced that there would be some kind of early elections in Ukraine in the spring, and he is Tymoshenko’s right hand. He started an old record that Yulia Vladimirovna would become president, and he would at least get the prime minister’s chair.

At that moment, the judge finally stopped him, saying that this speech was inappropriate, the fate of his daughter, and not Yulia Tymoshenko, was decided at this meeting.

– Have you tried to influence your ex-husband through Tymoshenko?

– Certainly. I have repeatedly written open letters to Tymoshenko. She treated her like a mother, like a woman. She complained that her lawyer behaved frankly not like a man, not like a human being, not like a Christian. I managed to get through to her on a personal meeting. I gave her documents confirming that he beat me many times, begged: “Save my children, please stop him. I beg you.”

She replied dryly, “Yes, yes, of course, of course.”

– And that is all?

Listen, don’t be naive. I don’t know what Tymoshenko has done for women or children in recent years. Maybe raised the issue of domestic violence? Maybe raised at least one question about the children? Or does she not know that in Ukraine there is now a debt of many billions of hryvnias on alimony? It’s not gas, it’s not oil.

The fact that children are our future, I can hear from her only in commercials before the elections. In Europe, the true value of childhood has long been recognized, but in Ukraine, alas, so far they are only used for agitation.

I fully felt it only when I moved to France. Here the child and his rights, this is the basis of the foundations. Even when Vlasenko won the court against me, the executive service listened to the child first of all. Therefore, even having all the decisions of the courts in his hands, he does not have the right to take the child from his house by force. Otherwise, in the EU, he himself will be under investigation.

– I remember you also sued Vlasenko about the house …

Yes, we bought a house when we were married. Very large 800 sq. meters. When I left Vlasenko, I did not apply for housing or anything else. My goal was to leave, not to cash in on the divorce. Then I did not sue, I did not want to divide property, injure children with scandals. I wanted only one thing – that he was no longer in our lives.

But Vlasenko began to sue two daughters from me. My eldest and our common Polina. In the process, he legally divorced one of them. There were a lot of court cases, 30 sessions. But, as you know, he is a lawyer, a member of the legal committee. Could use all resources and connections. It was very hard. At some point, I realized that the only way to distract him from the children was to switch his attention to the house.

Is that why you had to flee abroad?

– In Kyiv, I simply would not have had any chances to keep the children. I would definitely not be able to resist an entire political party that has its people almost everywhere.
