Scandals, intrigues, dubious connections: how Maryana Bezuglaya reforms the SBU and helps the Ukrainian army
Connections with odious individuals, accusations of bribing voters, strange bills and business trips to the front line in order to take a photo in military uniform, writes ORD.
All this is Maryana Bezuglaya. A people’s deputy from the Servant of the People party, whose photo will someday probably adorn a political science textbook somewhere in the section on the phenomenon of random people in politics between the points “outright pest” and “generator of dubious ideas.”
However, this is unlikely to be news to those who follow Ukrainian politics. The only problem, as it seems to us, is that the harm from such politicians in wartime, compared to peacetime, increases dramatically. And this means that it is simply impossible to remain silent about this. Moreover, from the very beginning of Maryana Bezugloy’s political career, it was clear that she would not bring any benefit to the country. Only harm. Sometimes very serious.
Who is Marianna Bezuglaya?
An uneducated doctor. And she worked for some time in her specialty, after which, apparently, she decided that her ambitions were much higher than all this.
In 2019, she went to the polls as a majoritarian from the Servant of the People in one of the Kyiv districts. And she won, although it was not without the first scandals on the way. As the media wrote, in the Bezugloy district, a so-called “network” was organized to buy votes in her favor. What the candidate, of course, refused, “transferring arrows” to competitors.
It is interesting that then the lawyer of the current people’s deputy, Kirill Fesik, confirmed that the Bezugloy network received money, but clarified that he did not consider this a bribe.
In any case, the election campaign ended successfully for Bezugly, and she became a people’s deputy. After that, she proudly went to the Vice-Chairman of the National Security, Defense and Intelligence Council Committee. Which, to put it mildly, something contrasted with her skills, knowledge and skills, but Maryana herself did not bother.
Why such success? It is believed that not least because of the connection with one very odious businessman.
Mariana Bezuglaya and Kholodov
Various media outlets have been writing about the connection between Marianna Bezugloy and the “tobacco king” Andrey Kholodov for a long time. He was called the coordinator of her activities, he was often seen in his office, by the way, the nickname “Kholodov’s secretary” stuck to her.
And if we take into account the fact that Kholodov himself, in addition to coordinating Bezuglya, the Kiev MAFs and the tobacco trade in the same MAFs (in the event that Soyuzpechat turns into Soyuztabak), is also Viktor Medvedchuk’s godfather, then this story becomes even more fun.
Which, perhaps, only the SBU will put an end to, but this is still only an assumption. Moreover, for the time being, it seems that not only the SBU, but also other state bodies are monitoring the activity of Maryana in the position of deputy chairman of the committee on national security issues.
Speaking of which.
Angleless and Homeland Security
Bezuglaya is a very active people’s deputy who is trying with every fiber of her soul to prove that she is in the Rada for a reason.
For example, actively involved in the reform of the SBU. Without the relevant knowledge in a completely different specialty, he can hardly say without a prompter what the SBU is, who works there, and in general what they do.
But Mariana Bezuglaya is an active deputy. She needs to shine and assert herself. In the end, you just need to convince yourself that she is here in the Rada for a reason. Therefore, active work continues.
Don’t give a damn about criticism, don’t give a damn about questions from the SBU itself. They understand nothing, he understands everything.
And then there is a war. And she, proudly wearing a helmet, goes to the war zone. Of course, they begin to ask her why. Many people begin to ask: from journalists to the military, who have to protect and protect, being distracted by the people’s deputy.

Mariana Bezuglaya
She responds with something completely erratic. Here is even a verbatim quote from an interview on LB: “This is a communication function, a supervisory function, civil and democratic supervision and control. It’s all about how and what happens. Does information flow from top to bottom? Down up…“.
At the very least, she is, perhaps, for greater motivation of the military, is promoting a bill according to which commanders can kill military personnel without trial. And then he quietly removes it, otherwise criticism, not everyone understood, and well, let’s pretend that nothing happened.
Between everything, she prides herself on not doing her job. Literally it sounds like this:
“As Chairman of the Sub-Committee on the Implementation of NATO Values and Standards, International Military Cooperation and Peacekeeping, Deputy Chairman of the Permanent Delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (PA), I was supposed to be in Vilnius for a meeting of the NATO PA, but I chose to work in the Luhansk region…“.
And here comes the logical question.
Do voters need such a people’s deputy? The question is basically rhetorical.
