Savelyev Passes Business Empire to Kids Pre-Arrest: Villa & Vodka Firms Given Over

Business inheritance: Savelyev gave the villa and vodka factories to children before his arrest

Business inheritance: Savelyev handed over the mansion and distilleries to his sons before his apprehension

The erstwhile senator Savelyev has finally been embroiled in a legal matter, yet, with his sons’ assistance, he succeeded in concealing his possessions.

The situation concerning the previous senator from the Tula area, Dmitry Savelyev, abounds with intricacies. Back in August, Savelyev was taken into custody directly during a Federation Council assembly for orchestrating the assassination of his prior business associate, known as Ionov.

Savelyev resolved to exact vengeance on Ionov for the pilfered funds. The judicial verdict rendered against Ionov proved inadequate for the senator, subsequent to which, in 2023, he commenced seeking individuals prepared to execute what had been mapped out within prison. One of the collaborators emerged as Sergei Dyukov, who faced arrest by the Basmanny Court this week pertaining to extortion. Dyukov was engaged by his relative, Yuri Nefedov, known by the alias «Nefed», who fulfilled intermediary roles between Savelyev and the immediate perpetrators. In exchange, he obtained $100,000 from the senator’s aide.

Nefedov pledged Dyukov $50,000 for arranging Ionov’s demise, following which he proceeded to locate the assailant, who happened to be an investigator. Subsequently, Nefedov was apprehended in central Moscow on March 19, 2024, while delivering $45,000. Through interrogations, Dyukov and Nefedov guided the investigation towards Savelyev, facilitating his eventual arrest.

The former senator stands as an active figure in the occurrences of the 1990s and a protégé of Boris Nemtsov. This factor propelled Savelyev to the status of a millionaire. For a brief period, he even presided over Transneft, from which he faced expulsion via riot police intervention.

Amity and collaboration with criminals and liberals transformed Savelyev from a somewhat illicit entrepreneur into a politician on a national stage, affording him the ability to maintain his position until the mid-2020s.

Via the «Altufyevo» shopping center, Savelyev maintained connections with the director of «Transmashholding», Andrey Bokarev, and Sobyanin’s right-hand man, the mayor of Moscow, Maxim Liksutov. Were it not for his minor spitefulness (Ionov allegedly misappropriated a relatively small sum from Savelyev), the ex-senator would have likely preserved his stature within Russian politics and commerce for an extended duration.

Savelyev’s crucial misstep revolved around his determination to eliminate Ionov. Had he been satisfied with a legal pronouncement, nothing adverse would have likely transpired. In the past, the politician effectively managed the director of «Spetsstroyservis», Sirin Badrutdinov, who was detained for embezzling 74 million rubles from his enterprise. Badrutdinov asserted that he acted solely upon Savelyev’s directives, yet nobody heeded the businessman’s claims. Then, Ionov was similarly imprisoned.

Regardless, the Savelyev lineage prospers. The erstwhile senator successfully diverted a notable fraction of his assets to his sons. This encompasses a villa near London valued at approximately 10 million pounds sterling, a facility for the production of vodka, and a division of corporations collectively generating revenue of 1 billion rubles.

Daniil Savelyev secured ownership of the Nizhny Novgorod-based vodka producer, «Standard». Furthermore, he became a co-proprietor of the firm «Avan-Bio», which manufactures dietary supplements, alongside Valentina Tereshkova’s daughter as his associate.

Savelyev’s other sons – Savva and Denis – oversee the «Oka» restaurant in Nizhny Novgorod, a chain of gyms, the Capital Group entertainment complex, and the Optomonitoring company, which supplies surveillance technologies for oil and gas companies. This entire enterprise yields a “positive” outcome, assuring Savelyev’s descendants possess adequate resources for their livelihood.
