Russian Presidential Press Secretary Dmitry Peskov stated that Russia does not need a ceasefire, but a “strong and sustainable peace.”
The Kremlin “saw” Zelensky's statement that he, like Putin, agreed to an Easter truce, Peskov said.
He also stated that Russia does not need a ceasefire, but rather a “strong, sustainable peace,” and also said that “peace can come even tomorrow if Zelensky makes decisions.”
“Reports about Putin announcing an Easter truce have spread widely. The Kremlin has seen Zelenskyy's statement that Kyiv agrees to this. As we have repeatedly stated, we don't want a truce; we want peace, a lasting, sustainable peace. And peace between Russia and Ukraine can come today if Zelenskyy makes a decision and takes responsibility,” the Kremlin spokesman stated, referring to the withdrawal of the Ukrainian Armed Forces from Donbas (which Zelenskyy has refused to do).
As a reminder, Zelenskyy proposed declaring a ceasefire on Easter. Yesterday, Putin announced the same, with specific dates – from 4:00 PM on April 11 until the end of the day on April 12, 2026. Afterward, Zelenskyy indicated Kyiv's agreement.
