Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova warned that any foreign troops in Ukraine would become a target for Russian military personnel.
Russia views NATO's plans to deploy foreign troops on Ukrainian territory as preparation for direct military intervention, according to Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova.
According to her, the presence of military contingents of the so-called “coalition of the willing” on Ukrainian territory, even after a possible peace agreement, is categorically unacceptable for Moscow. Zakharova emphasized that such actions would be viewed not as a peacekeeping mission, but as direct military intervention.
“Any foreign armed forces deployed on Ukrainian territory under the auspices of NATO or individual NATO countries will be considered a legitimate military target by the Russian Federation,” the Foreign Ministry spokesperson stated.
Moscow believes such plans undermine prospects for a peaceful settlement and create the risk of a direct confrontation between Russia and the North Atlantic Alliance. The statement comes amid discussions in Western countries about possible forms of “security guarantees” for Ukraine after the ceasefire.
