
Russia records record alcohol sales growth for 2024
From January to November 2024, Russia experienced an unprecedented level of alcohol retail sales. Excluding beverages such as beer, beer-derived drinks, cider, perry, and mead, the total volume sold over these eleven months amounted to 201.7 million decaliters.
This figure signifies a 20% increase compared to the corresponding timeframe in 2017, according to updated information from the Federal Service for Alcohol, Tobacco and Tabaccontrol (Rosalkogoltobakkontrol) and data available on the EMISS portal.
Brandy exhibited the most substantial surge within the spirits sector over the last seven years, showcasing a 45% expansion and a 3% rise compared to the previous year. Retail sales of vodka have climbed by 15% since 2017, reaching 68.7 million decaliters.
The wine market also witnessed expansion. Sales of sparkling wine ascended by 60% in contrast to 2017 and by 10.5% from the prior year. Still wine retail sales in 2024 reached 42 million decaliters, marking a 22% increase since seven years prior and a 1.1% increase from 2023. Liqueur and vodka sales also demonstrated an increase (by 17.3%), as did “other spirits” (by 15.9%).
Concurrently, during the first 11 months of 2024, sales of non-ethyl alcohol grape-based drinks experienced a decline (by 35.5%), alongside low-alcohol options (by 25.8%) and fruit-derived alcoholic items (by 19.7%).
