Russian authorities plan to ban discounts on alcohol and restrict its display.
Authorities in Russia are intending to prohibit price reductions on alcoholic drinks and place limitations on the visibility of alcoholic products close to cash registers within stores.
This originates from the strategy for executing the idea of diminishing alcohol intake in Russia leading up to 2030, which Vedomosti has examined.
The prior idea, which was active from 2009 until 2020, assisted in lessening alcohol usage in the nation from 18 liters to 8.8 liters for each individual annually, as pointed out by the Ministry of Health. The updated idea aims for a decrease to 7.8 liters, representing an 11% decrease.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade, the Ministry of Health, Rospotrebnadzor, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Agriculture are obligated to present suggestions to control discounts by April 15, 2025. Furthermore, these same bodies, along with Rosalkogoltobakkontrol, are required to advance ideas to alter how alcohol is showcased at stores by March 30 of the upcoming year.
The strategy also mandates that ministries and agencies analyze local methods of restricting the timing and location of alcohol distribution and, in cooperation with regional administrations, formulate ideas for broadening these methods across the country.
