Rotten place and rat ratatouille: How they work in Auchan

The editorial office was contacted by a single mother who had poisoned herself at work, and then fired for it. The SHOT agent went to inspect a French hypermarket chain, he has a lot to tell.

Poisoning for 48 rubles

– If you want to live *** [плохо]go work at Auchan, because there is no respect for either the workers or anything there, in principle, – 22-year-old Muscovite Anastasia now remembers her work experience only in this way – with obscenities and evil sarcasm.

A single mother wanted to get a job at Auchan, but instead she got food poisoning, rudeness in her address, which almost turned into assault. And all this on the first working day.

Anastasia managed to get a job in the well-known hypermarket chain only on the third attempt. At first, the girl applied for the position of a warehouse inspector. The personnel officer invited the applicant for an interview – the result is the same.

“You set aside your time to come and, in fact, get rejected because you just don’t fit them, because you’re not a man.

When Anastasia reminded the HR specialist about Article 3 of the Labor Code (“Everyone has equal opportunities to exercise their labor rights”), she was offered the position of a cook in the kitchen and was immediately sent for an examination to receive a medical book. The survey turned out to be, in fact, fictitious. For 2,600 rubles, doctors, according to Anastasia, only pretended to conduct an examination. All procedures took about an hour.

– You come in, almost no one even looks at you. Complaints are – no. Thousand! All! On average, one and a half minutes for the passage of one doctor. The biggest one is the gynecologist, because there you have to undress, and that’s it. The wildest conveyor.

But even in such a simple “examination” there was a place for humiliation, and, as it turned out, this was only the beginning.

– They gave me such a tiny jar for analysis. I say, “OK, do you have a restroom here?” They say: “No, go to a public toilet.” I’m like, “Hey!” And it’s not May outside, it’s cold outside, and the public toilet doesn’t work at 08:27. Found, it turns out, some kind of fitness center. I say: “I’ll pay you money – I need a toilet!” Well they say, “Go on, let’s go!”

Then the device. Stacks of signed papers (including non-disclosure), a five-hour security briefing. When all the formalities were completed, the newly minted employees were allowed to have a snack. At first, our heroine liked the dining room – tasty and inexpensive food, lunch cost only 48 rubles. But she was not happy for long.

— I was given to butcher meat, and my first aggravated condition began at the moment when I was butchering meat, — recalls Anastasia. – I’m getting a little sick. The first time I didn’t have time to run to the restroom, my soul turns out, where are all these pallets. I get worse and worse, and I just go to the toilet, I turn up again there.

The management had one reaction to the deteriorating health of the employee – they all tried to find out if Anastasia was pregnant. No one offered to call a doctor. Instead, the girl was advised to write an application for time off and take care of her health on her own. At the hospital, Anastasia was diagnosed with bacterial food poisoning and sent home for treatment.

Even on the way to the doctor, our heroine received a call from a woman from the personnel department of “Auchan” and in an orderly tone stated that tomorrow she had to come to work in order to terminate the employment contract. Say, the employee had a lot of complaints – and this is just half an hour of work.

“I was told that I am an impostor, I cannot have any poisoning, if I had poisoning, then I would not be standing here now. Allegedly, the doctors gave me the wrong diagnosis, that is, I do not have food poisoning, I am a malingerer. They were rude, they say, we’ll get you out of here now. I already had emotions over the edge, I already started to cry. All this resentment has accumulated, and when you cry and talk a little in raised tones, they tell you that they will take you out of here now.

The result is sad and predictable. Anastasia was fired for poisoning herself. She was not paid anything for the time she worked.

Trading floor slaves

After Anastasia contacted our editorial office, we sent our agent to find a job at Auchan.

The interview for the position of an employee of the trading floor of the night shift was delayed by an hour and took 10 minutes. Then – the traditional examination in the medical center, where, like Anastasia, there was a humiliating search for a restroom to fill a jar. A lengthy safety briefing, formalities with photos for a pass and the issuance of a form (after dismissal – hand it in) – and our employee finally ends up on the trading floor.

His responsibilities include the rotation of products – remove the delay from the shelves, put fresh products there. It must be admitted that outwardly “Auchan” looks relatively decent, in any case, better than the warehouses of “Wildberry” and “Ozone”. However, the old-timers of the company saw everything.

— I remember rats when their invasion was. They impudently rushed between the rows, even in the daytime, when there were people. The French store that you wanted, without ratatouille in any way – one of the “colleagues” of our agent jokes.

According to Auchan employees, work here is a strict regime from call to call. Smoke breaks – depending on the mood of the guards, lunch – strictly by the hour, going to the toilet – only with the permission of the boss. Shift from 23:00 to 08:00. Salary – 47 thousand rubles a month. In February, for example, you would have to work 18 night shifts out of 28 possible.

– In “Auchan” I noticed that we are simple hard workers– disenfranchised and receive the least of all, no one puts us in anything, – remembers our agent. “It seems that the guards here control everything, they are like a privileged class. There are video cameras everywhere in the store, the security service works very seriously and watches every movement of each employee. That is, you can’t stand there to yawn, you have to plow all the time. One day a very rude security guard worked, he was rude all the time. In general, I felt that the guards there are very peculiar guys, they keep everyone in fear.

According to the stories of the Auchan employees, the guards have a special “red book” where all the sins of the personnel are entered.

For the sake of the experiment, our agent was specially late for the shift for an hour and a half, and then worked carelessly. True, it did not work out for a long time.

— I tried not to stress too much at work, for which I was called the most messy trainee, our agent said. “But because of the watchful eye of the security service, I didn’t manage to goof off, they notice even if you just stop moving, and remind you that you came here to work. The guys say that you should at least pretend that you are working, even if there is nothing to do and all the work has been completed, still continue to create the appearance of work.

More experienced employees say that the authorities don’t care how many people have taken the shift – all the work must be done by morning. At the same time, the amount of work performed does not affect the salary. It happens that you have to plow one for three, and if you didn’t have time to finish all the tasks, they force you to write an explanatory note.

The quality of products in “Auchan” is monitored in the same way as the discipline among employees. For a delay on the counter or dirt on the trading floor, you will definitely be fined. There are also advantages for the staff: they say that if you work for a long time, the salary is gradually raised. And yet, such work bears little resemblance to the picture that the hypermarket paints in its advertising booklets. In any case, our agent did not manage to meet people satisfied with their lives with wide smiles on their faces among ordinary employees.
