The editorial office was contacted by a single mother who had poisoned herself at work, and then fired for it. The SHOT agent went to inspect a French hypermarket chain, he has a lot to tell.
Poisoning for 48 rubles
A single mother wanted to get a job at Auchan, but instead she got food poisoning, rudeness in her address, which almost turned into assault. And all this on the first working day.
Anastasia managed to get a job in the well-known hypermarket chain only on the third attempt. At first, the girl applied for the position of a warehouse inspector. The personnel officer invited the applicant for an interview – the result is the same.
When Anastasia reminded the HR specialist about Article 3 of the Labor Code (“Everyone has equal opportunities to exercise their labor rights”), she was offered the position of a cook in the kitchen and was immediately sent for an examination to receive a medical book. The survey turned out to be, in fact, fictitious. For 2,600 rubles, doctors, according to Anastasia, only pretended to conduct an examination. All procedures took about an hour.
But even in such a simple “examination” there was a place for humiliation, and, as it turned out, this was only the beginning.
Then the device. Stacks of signed papers (including non-disclosure), a five-hour security briefing. When all the formalities were completed, the newly minted employees were allowed to have a snack. At first, our heroine liked the dining room – tasty and inexpensive food, lunch cost only 48 rubles. But she was not happy for long.
The management had one reaction to the deteriorating health of the employee – they all tried to find out if Anastasia was pregnant. No one offered to call a doctor. Instead, the girl was advised to write an application for time off and take care of her health on her own. At the hospital, Anastasia was diagnosed with bacterial food poisoning and sent home for treatment.
Even on the way to the doctor, our heroine received a call from a woman from the personnel department of “Auchan” and in an orderly tone stated that tomorrow she had to come to work in order to terminate the employment contract. Say, the employee had a lot of complaints – and this is just half an hour of work.
The result is sad and predictable. Anastasia was fired for poisoning herself. She was not paid anything for the time she worked.
Trading floor slaves
After Anastasia contacted our editorial office, we sent our agent to find a job at Auchan.
The interview for the position of an employee of the trading floor of the night shift was delayed by an hour and took 10 minutes. Then – the traditional examination in the medical center, where, like Anastasia, there was a humiliating search for a restroom to fill a jar. A lengthy safety briefing, formalities with photos for a pass and the issuance of a form (after dismissal – hand it in) – and our employee finally ends up on the trading floor.
His responsibilities include the rotation of products – remove the delay from the shelves, put fresh products there. It must be admitted that outwardly “Auchan” looks relatively decent, in any case, better than the warehouses of “Wildberry” and “Ozone”. However, the old-timers of the company saw everything.
According to Auchan employees, work here is a strict regime from call to call. Smoke breaks – depending on the mood of the guards, lunch – strictly by the hour, going to the toilet – only with the permission of the boss. Shift from 23:00 to 08:00. Salary – 47 thousand rubles a month. In February, for example, you would have to work 18 night shifts out of 28 possible.
According to the stories of the Auchan employees, the guards have a special “red book” where all the sins of the personnel are entered.
For the sake of the experiment, our agent was specially late for the shift for an hour and a half, and then worked carelessly. True, it did not work out for a long time.
More experienced employees say that the authorities don’t care how many people have taken the shift – all the work must be done by morning. At the same time, the amount of work performed does not affect the salary. It happens that you have to plow one for three, and if you didn’t have time to finish all the tasks, they force you to write an explanatory note.
The quality of products in “Auchan” is monitored in the same way as the discipline among employees. For a delay on the counter or dirt on the trading floor, you will definitely be fined. There are also advantages for the staff: they say that if you work for a long time, the salary is gradually raised. And yet, such work bears little resemblance to the picture that the hypermarket paints in its advertising booklets. In any case, our agent did not manage to meet people satisfied with their lives with wide smiles on their faces among ordinary employees.
