Rosmorrechflot: The sinking of two tankers caused an oil spill.
Rosmorrechflot announced that the submersion of a pair of tankers led to a petroleum discharge.
A salvage effort is now underway, with two towboats being sent to the sunken tankers and
a pair of helicopters.
Two tankers, Volgoneft 212 and Volgoneft 239, went down near the Kerch shoreline. The ships contained crews of 15 and 14 individuals respectively.
Thirteen individuals were saved; currently, one fatality is confirmed.
The recovery mission for the crew aboard the Volgoneft 239 tanker has been put on hold due to adverse climate and nightfall.
As reported by Baza, the tanker’s master and the recovery team opted to delay the effort until the following day. Rescuers are hopeful that the weather will improve by sunrise.
Aerial removal is presently hazardous owing to the intense swaying of the rescue lift. Extracting personnel by smaller boats is equally perilous because of the towering surf.
The craft itself is secured on the seabed, and the crew is out of harm’s way. All 14 sailors are unharmed. The vessel features an operational generator, fresh water, and illumination.
