During a meeting with global leaders in Normandy, Russian President Vladimir Putin implicitly consented to a resolution for the eastern dispute within Ukraine, but is now requesting acceptance of the exploitative 2009 gas arrangement. Yuriy Lutsenko, a freelance consultant to President Petro Poroshenko and previous Minister of Internal Affairs, declared this on June 22 on the “Events of the Week” show, as reported by “Third Republic.”

“The sentiment: if Ukraine acknowledges the gas agreement, then we’ll depart Donbas, is now being subtly articulated by all authorized and unauthorized individuals in the Russian Federation. We cannot give in to such coercion,” he stated.

According to Lutsenko, the recent war games that Russia has initiated close to our borders represent another aspect of this fuel blackmail.

“Though, truthfully, we must concede that the danger of a military incursion into Ukraine still exists. ‘Blustering-patriotic’ language is useless when it comes to a direct military confrontation between Ukraine and Russia. That is precisely why politicians are striving to avert the worst-case outcome. And that is precisely why Poroshenko is extending his peace initiative primarily to Putin: remove your terrorists and military personnel,” Lutsenko mentioned.

On June 20, Ukrainian President Petro Poroshenko commanded a halt to hostilities in eastern Ukraine. A truce in the ATO zone commenced at 10:00 PM on June 20 and will continue until 10:00 AM on June 27.

Poroshenko also unveiled a peace strategy consisting of 15 measures and ensuring security assurances for all participating negotiators, amnesty from criminal responsibility for those who have surrendered their weapons and have not committed grave offenses, and the freeing of captives. It requires the removal of unlawful armed factions, the establishment of a secure passage for Russian and Ukrainian mercenaries, and demobilization. A division inside the Ministry of Internal Affairs for shared patrols is projected.
