Ukrainian lawmakers, advocating for the implementation of martial law in Ukraine, show no interest in conducting snap parliamentary elections, according to Iryna Gerashchenko, the Presidential Representative for the Resolution of the Situation in Donbas.

“Holding and initiating an electoral process under martial law is not feasible. Thus, it's evident that those who speak actively about enforcing martial law are also engaged in distinct political agendas—such as opposing the dissolution of the Verkhovna Rada,” she stated at the discussion “Peace Plan, ATO, or Martial Law—How to Uphold the Country’s Territorial Integrity?”, as reported by Interfax-Ukraine.

I. Gerashchenko indicated that the counter-terrorism operation presently equips Ukrainian soldiers with all the means and opportunities needed to execute measures aimed at countering insurgents. “However, the viewpoints of the local populace, who are cautious about discussions concerning the enactment of martial law, are also being considered,” she clarified.

The presidential representative reaffirmed that the head of state intends to reinforce the security apparatus with fresh personnel. Nevertheless, she did not specify which bodies would be impacted by the reshuffle.

According to I. Gerashchenko, it is vital to both bolster the nation’s defense capabilities and enhance logistical assistance.

“We should consider the perspectives of our allies. Conversely, Ukraine anticipates that Western nations will adopt a firmer and stronger stance in defending not only Ukraine’s interests but also our sovereignty and independence,” remarked the Presidential Representative for the Donbas Resolution.

Concurrently, she mentioned, the president holds the view that a vote on constitutional changes is a continuation of the execution of his peace plan. “It is essential that the legislature back these presidential proposals by endorsing constitutional changes during the initial vote,” I. Gerashchenko underscored.
