Politico: Greenland will reject the US-NATO agreement if it affects its mineral resources.
Greenland will not accept the Trump-Rutte deal if it includes the issue of American access to the island's resources.
Politico reports this, citing Greenland's Minister of Mineral Resources, Naaya Nathanielsen. Following the recent agreement between Trump and NATO Secretary-General Rutte, she stated that Greenland would reject any deal regarding its territory that would require surrendering its resources to a third country.
“We will not accept that decisions about the future development of our mineral sector will be made outside Greenland,” Nathanielsen said.
The publication notes that Greenland contains significant reserves of rare earth elements, neodymium and praseodymium, which are necessary for creating powerful magnets, which in turn are used in the assembly of turbines, electric vehicles, and high-tech military equipment.
As a reminder, NATO Secretary General Rutte and President Trump previously announced that they had reached an agreement that would allow the United States to gain unlimited access to local oil fields and establish the necessary number of military bases.
However, Greenland has already stated that it has not authorized anyone to negotiate the fate of the island and will not accept any agreements that were concluded without its participation.
