Metropolitan Pereyaslav-Khmelnytskyi: Minister Zakharchenko blackmailed me
Metropolitan Alexander (Drabinko), the secretary of the Head of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church affiliated with the Moscow Patriarchate, has revealed the conclusion of the criminal proceeding where he was a witness. The metropolitan communicated that the Kyiv prosecutor’s office rendered this verdict, as stated on his social media account, reported by NEWSru.com .
Here are the details of the occurrence that instigated the probe. On the evening of June 14, 2013, two nuns vanished from the territory of Kyiv Pechersk Lavra: Mother Superior Kalisferia (Shamailo) from the Intercession Monastery and her aide, Sister Katerina. On June 17, the women made their own way back to the monastery. They alleged that they were abducted, confined to a cellar, and pressured for cash. Allegedly, the mother superior may have inadvertently been caught up in a vehicle trading fraud.
Subsequently, the authorities initiated a legal case under Part 2 of Article 115 coupled with Article 15 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (attempt to commit premeditated homicide). Metropolitan Alexander was identified as a pivotal witness.
” The then-Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine, Zakharchenko, forcefully demanded that I tender a letter of resignation from all my posts by June 23, 2013,” Metropolitan Alexander penned on his online journal.
The hierarch further stated that he has since been reinstated to the roles he formerly occupied, notably, the leadership of the UOC MP’s awards division, the role of chief editor for its official web portal, and the authorship and hosting of the show titled “Orthodox Herald.”
