While examining revisions to the 2026 national budget, lawmakers endorsed an initiative to extend the tax advantages related to electric vehicles for a further year. These advantages will be in effect up to January 1, 2027.

This information was gleaned from the live feed of the parliamentary session on Wednesday, October 22.

The proposal received affirmative votes from 248 representatives, exceeding the needed 226.

Therefore, the present tax advantages – which encompass the abolition of import duties (10% of the car’s price), value-added tax (20%), and the pension fund levy during the initial registration – have been prolonged beyond January 1, 2026.

Only the excise duty remains as an added expense, set at 1 euro for each kilowatt-hour of battery capacity and typically capped at 100 euros.

Fiscal incentives on the importation of electric vehicles have been implemented since 2018. Initially, they were instituted for a single year, but have subsequently been renewed on numerous occasions.
