One-time courier: Whose task was performed by Daria Trepova, a suspect in the terrorist attack

On Monday, a division of the Investigative Committee for St. Petersburg reclassified the criminal case on the murder of a military commissar Vladlen Tatarsky for a heavier composition – part three of article 205 of the Criminal Code (“Terrorist attack”). This article threatens the perpetrators with a life sentence, but for women – up to 25 years in prison.

Now investigators are working with the main suspect – 25-year-old native of St. Petersburg Daria Trepova. It was she who brought a box with a souvenir bust to the Street Food Bar, where a creative evening was held with military commissar Vladlen Tatarsky. According to the investigation, inside it was a homemade explosive. A few minutes after Trepova left the bust near the military correspondent, an explosion thundered. She managed to hide herself. Tatarsky died, 32 people were injured.

According to preliminary data, Trepova was recruited back in Moscow. According to sources from the SHOT telegram channel, the girl brought a bust with a bomb to St. Petersburg a few days ago. The curator allegedly told her that there was a wiretap inside the bust, so Tatarsky should have the package. Trepova claims that she allegedly did not know that explosives were inside.

However, everything suggests that they were preparing for a terrorist attack and Trepova knew perfectly well what she was doing. First of all, they rented an apartment for her near the Street Food Bar on the 4th line of Vasilyevsky Island, where she ran immediately after the explosion and changed her image: she changed clothes, cut off her hair. According to the SHOT telegram channel, the girl then packed up and drove to a different address, changing cars several times. Four hours later, she ended up in the apartment of her friend at Fedor Abramov Street, 8. She was detained there. In addition, to confuse the operatives, plane tickets abroad were bought in her name.

Who did Trepova work for?

According to the Telegram channel SHOT, Trepova’s curator could be one of the leaders of the NBP Eduard Limonov — 44 year old Roman Popkov. The man has a rich political and criminal past: he is known for various extremist antics at the turn of the century. In particular, he was noted among those who threw raw eggs at the then Minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs Boris Gryzlov. Later he participated in a mass brawl between the National Bolsheviks and members of the local youth movement.

In 2008, for this, Popkov and his wife Elena Borovskoy convicted under Article 213 of the Criminal Code (“Hooliganism”), the first was sentenced to two years and three months in a penal colony, the second was given two years. After serving time, Popkov and Limonov parted ways. He and a number of members of the NBP left the party and moved in all directions.

Popkov eventually got into the oligarch’s information service Mikhail Khodorkovsky, worked as a journalist and columnist in his “MBH-Media”. The wife started selling cosmetics, founded a trading company, in which, however, she did not officially stay for a long time. Until now, in some notebooks of Borovskoy’s contacts, she is listed as a courier-seller.

At some point, Popkov met Daria Trepova. Both are following each other on social media. According to the sources of the SHOT telegram channel, at first the man “taught journalism” to Trepova, and then allegedly instructed to complete the task from “an acquaintance.” This acquaintance allegedly could be an SBU agent.

Popkov himself has already managed to disown what is happening: in his telegram channel, the propagandist said that he really knows Trepova, but he did not command the operation to eliminate Tatarsky, he did not give any tasks to the girl.
