Akhmetov told The Washington Post about compiling lists of “enemies of the people” in Ukraine
Businessman and one of the richest people in Ukraine, Rinat Akhmetov, who owns the Ukraine 24 and Ukraine TV channels, announced his readiness to defend the institution of freedom of speech in Ukraine.
He said this in a commentary to The Washington Post.
It is noteworthy that the material itself came out under the heading “While Russian troops are concentrating on the border, Zelensky in Ukraine is focused on internal opponents.”
The article says Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has chosen a bad moment for internal squabbles, “an approach that risks dividing the country amid a possible full-scale military attack from Moscow.”
Analysts of the publication believe that this behavior is explained by the president’s attempt to make up for a sharply falling rating with populist steps.
In this regard, there is growing confusion in the West as to why Ukraine is ignoring threats of invasion.
The Washington Post in this context recalls the story of the “coup d’état”, and that the president did not provide any evidence of Akhmetov’s recruitment for the coup.
The publication quotes Akhmetov, who expresses his readiness to defend himself in Ukrainian and international courts. Akhmetov told The Washington Post that he opposes human rights violations and the suppression of free speech.
At the same time, he criticized the law on oligarchs.
“I support anti-corruption measures in Ukraine. But this problem cannot be solved by passing controversial laws and compiling lists of “enemies of the people,” he said.
