Permian Basin: US shale oil production reaches record peak.

In the United States, oil production in the Permian Basin, the country's key shale province, will reach a record in December 2025, marking a turning point in the shale boom that has upended global energy markets over the past 15 years.

According to the EIA, the expected figure will be 6.76 million barrels per day, slightly above November's level. The Permian Basin accounts for almost half of all US oil production, reaching 13.6 million barrels per day in 2025.

Reuters experts note that innovations in drilling will allow production to remain stable for many years to come, despite the fact that the best sections of the basin have already been actively developed and are depleted after more than a decade of work.

Permian oil production costs for Exxon and Chevron have fallen to $30–40 per barrel, significantly below the industry average of $62. This means that while the region's production growth rates are unlikely to be replicated, the Permian Basin will remain the backbone of the US oil industry.
