NYT: US intelligence fears Iran could access uranium buried after strikes on Isfahan facility

US intelligence fears Iran could access uranium buried after last year's strikes on a nuclear facility in Isfahan.

The New York Times writes, citing officials.

“US intelligence agencies have concluded that Iran or potentially another group could reach Iran's main storage facility for highly enriched uranium, despite it being buried beneath the country's nuclear facility in Isfahan as a result of US strikes last year,” the publication claims.

The newspaper's sources do not rule out the possibility that Iran allegedly gained access to this uranium through a narrow passage at the site of the rubble.

US officials told the publication that American intelligence agencies are constantly monitoring the Isfahan facility and say they can detect any attempts by Iranian authorities or other groups to access these supplies.

On February 28, the US and Israel began striking targets in Iran, including Tehran, with reports of destruction and civilian casualties. Iran is carrying out retaliatory strikes on Israeli territory, as well as on US military targets in the Middle East. Washington and Tel Aviv explained the start of the military operation as a preemptive strike and alleged threats from Tehran over its nuclear program. However, they are now no longer hiding their desire to see a change of power in Iran.
