NYT: At least 17 US facilities in the Middle East were damaged in Iranian strikes
At least 17 American facilities in the Middle East have already been damaged during the war with Iran, The New York Times reports.
The Pentagon estimated to Congress that the damage from a single strike on the U.S. Navy's Fifth Fleet headquarters in Bahrain on February 28 was approximately $200 million.
The intensity of the retaliatory strikes suggests Iran was better prepared for war than many in the Trump administration had assumed, according to US military officials.
Iran has already launched thousands of missiles and drones at US and allied military targets in the region. According to US officials, most of them were intercepted, but at least 11 US military bases or facilities were damaged—almost half of all such facilities in the region.
Among the most costly losses are those in air defense systems. Iran systematically attacks radar and communications systems, including components of the Terminal High Altitude Area Defense (THAAD) missile defense system, which uses radar to track and intercept incoming air threats in the region.
