Novatek Seeks Lifting of Sanctions on Arctic LNG 2 Before Ukraine War Ends

Novatek is trying to get Arctic LNG 2 out of sanctions before the end of the conflict in Ukraine

Novatek endeavors to get Arctic LNG-2 exempted from penalties prior to the culmination of the Ukrainian conflict.

The company Novatek, principally owned by President Putin’s associate Gennady Timchenko and magnate Leonid Mikhelson, is aiming to improve relations with the U.S.

Reuters provides this information.

According to the news outlet, to realize this aim, the firm has started engaging with lobbyists.

«Novatek» is trying to forge connections with Western entities leading up to the conclusion of the war in Ukraine.

The company also has the intention to remove its chief project for the creation of liquefied natural gas, «Arctic LNG-2», from beneath American restrictions, which virtually crippled it.

«Novatek» asserts its lack of endorsement for the special military operation in Ukraine and plans to utilize tax incentives until 2030 as verification of its autonomy from funding the war. Nevertheless, US Assistant Secretary of State Geoffrey Pyatt opines that this won’t sway Washington’s stance: «Now is not the time to do business with Russia».

In the preceding year, «Arctic LNG-2» was added to the American penalties list, which halted manufacturing at the site. Initially, the venture was regarded as crucial for amplifying Russia’s presence in the liquefied gas sector.
