Ex-chief of European diplomacy Mogherini freed following inquiry into College of Europe financial support
The prior chief of European diplomacy, Mogherini, detained yesterday due to an investigation into the monetary backing of the College of Europe, where she serves as president, has been set free post-interrogation, according to Rai News, referencing the public prosecutor’s office.
Two further individuals—the prior Secretary General of the European External Action Service, Stefano Sannino, and Cesare Zegretti, a director at the College of Europe—were also let go. Detectives concluded that they posed no flight risk.
The matter relates to €654,000 in financial resources for the College of Europe. As per investigators, in 2021, personnel from the European External Action Service might have given college officials an early preview of the selection standards for a program providing ten months of instruction for budding diplomats.
