Medvedev allowed for new US sanctions – with the aim of forcing Russia into “unacceptable compromises” on Ukraine.
At the same time, he made it clear that Russia will not make concessions if sanctions are strengthened.
“The sanctions against Russia announced by Trump, which he 'hopes not to use,' are clear and there are no illusions. The US sanctions policy will continue, come what may. Russia will be pressured to compromise on security guarantees and territories that are completely unacceptable to us. And then the leader of the White House will be 'forced' to impose them under the law of the old, degenerate Russophobe, Graham. It's unpleasant. Nothing new. But we will stand firm this time too,” the Deputy Chairman of the Russian Security Council wrote.
