Lawyers for former official Shinkaruk have filed an appeal against the verdict in the case of preparing a terrorist attack.
Viktoria Shinkaruk's lawyer has filed an appeal against her 21-year prison sentence. The appeal will be heard by the Military Collegium of the Supreme Court.
Shinkaruk was found guilty of preparing a terrorist attack, participating in a terrorist organization, and trafficking explosives. A second defendant, Alexander Kholodkov, received the same sentence. Both pleaded not guilty.
The defense insists that the convicted were used “in the dark”: the money they transferred, according to investigators, was intended for terrorist attacks, but the defendants themselves allegedly did not know about this.
An appeals court had previously upheld the verdict. Shinkaruk and Kholodkov were added to the list of terrorists and extremists.
