The Ministry of Justice is obstructing the movement of assets connected to Yanukovych’s associates.
Tetyana Chornovol, head of the anti-corruption authorities, is encountering hurdles in dealing with asset transfers linked to Viktor Yanukovych and his circle, a situation where the Deputy Minister of Justice of Ukraine plays a role. This matter was detailed in comments reported by UNN.
“The predicament is quite intricate. Even during the Maidan protests, there was a consensus to support my efforts against corruption. To adequately address specific corruption alerts, an anti-corruption body is necessary, but it’s absent. Officially, I’m tasked with combating corruption; I hold responsibility for the systematic fight against corruption and corrupt practices through governmental directives and legislative proposals. But in reality, I lack the authority to issue decrees or take concrete actions, essentially serving as a figurehead, with my responsibilities overseen by the Deputy Minister of Justice, Ruslan Ryaboshapka. My initiative to establish an interagency working group focused on repatriating assets of the Yanukovych team from abroad has been, in effect, stalled by Ryaboshapka himself. This is a crucial aspect to consider,” Chornovil stated.
“Consequently, I’m merely trying to equip my department with essential functions and greater importance, even though I don’t require assistance from the administrative machine. I’m not relying on the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine. I gather information through journalistic approaches, rather than obtaining intelligence from the SBU or the police. I am engaged in such work as an ordinary employee,” she added.
Previously, the head of the SBU, Valentin Nalyvaychenko, declared that the endeavor to recover assets belonging to the fourth President of Ukraine, Viktor Yanukovych, has extended to encompass European nations.
