
Iran opens its nuclear facilities to international observers amid tensions with the US
Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian stated that Tehran does not seek to develop nuclear weapons. He asserted that the country's nuclear program is exclusively peaceful and is being implemented within the framework of its international obligations.
At the same time, US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent announced that the United States is deploying additional military forces to the region around Iran. Bessent emphasized that Donald Trump is open to negotiations with Tehran, but he said the Islamic Republic's authorities “only understand brute force—whether in financial markets or militarily.”
In September 2025, Iran suspended cooperation with the IAEA. The Iranian Security Council attributed this to the “reckless actions” of the European “troika”—the UK, France, and Germany—which, according to the Iranian side, were taking “hostile measures.”
