Iran demands up to $2 million for safe passage of tankers through the Strait of Hormuz
Iran has begun to “sell” safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz.
According to the FT, some tankers pay up to $2 million for safe passage, and “friendly” ships can also pass without turning on their automatic tracking systems.
Currently, preference is given to ships from countries with which Iran maintains close economic relations, in particular China and India, as well as its own oil fleet.
