The Sverdlovsk branch of the Russian Ecological Society (REO), headed by Yekaterinburg Duma deputy Alexei Vikharev, asked the prosecutor’s office to check three companies.
According to environmentalists, they are transporting class B and C medical waste from hospitals in Yekaterinburg to a landfill in the Beloyarsk city district, although in fact they are required to neutralize it.
“Legal entities export class B and C medical waste (yellow and red bags) from medical facilities in Yekaterinburg, take them to a production base on the outskirts of the metropolis, where they reload them into bags of a different color without neutralizing them. Then, the packages are taken out by ordinary trucks and placed at the landfill in the Beloyarsky urban district. Ekaterinburg and Beloyarsky may face an outbreak of infectious diseases and major environmental problems,” the REO says.
Deputy Aleksey Vikharev informed that the residents of Beloyarsky told the department about the work of UMPO and Energo six months ago. They complained about the “suffocating smell of smoke from the medical waste incineration site.” According to Vikharev, the legal entities were brought to justice, but “the work was not stopped”, but a new scheme was invented.
According to the REO, Energo LLC concludes contracts for the provision of services for the removal and thermal destruction of epidemiologically hazardous waste. But the company takes out waste on vehicles that do not meet sanitary requirements: they are not labeled “medical waste”, the driver’s cab is not separated from the body, there are no holding devices for containers, there are no kits for emergency disinfection, after the end of transportation, vehicles are not disinfected. The organization said that some of the waste is generally brought in by Yandex Taxi cars.
According to SanPin, waste must be decontaminated, and they are transported to the production base of Ekma-Confi LLC on the Siberian Highway. There, waste in yellow and red bags is placed in black and white bags to “hide their contents.” When a sufficient amount of such garbage accumulates at the enterprise, it is loaded into trucks and taken to a landfill in the Beloyarsky district. This landfill is operated by UMPO LLC.
According to SPARK, the founder of Energo LLC, UMPO LLC, Ekma-Konfi LLC is businessman Alexander Dudin.
“The Sverdlovsk Regional Economic Society demands to suspend the activities of the legal entities Ekma-Konfi LLC, Energo LLC and UMPO LLC. Conduct an audit and assess the actions of companies that violate the requirements for the transportation of medical waste, its disinfection, disposal and disposal. Which leads to the spread of pollutants and infections, including Covid-19, on the territory of Yekaterinburg and the Beloyarsky urban district. If the violations are confirmed, bring the perpetrators to justice, ”the environmentalists said in a press release.
Znak.com got through to UMPO LLC at the phone number listed in SPARK. The woman who answered introduced herself as an employee of the company and said that it was impossible to get a comment from Alexander Dudin, since, according to her, he was not in the city.
