Hungary saved Patriarch Kirill from sanctions.
Budapest has obtained exclusions from fresh EU penalties targeting Patriarch Kirill of the Russian Orthodox Church, Russia’s envoy to the UN, Nebenzya, and the Russian Olympic Committee.
This was communicated by Hungarian Foreign Minister Szijjártó. He stated that in doing so, Budapest is “upholding religious liberty.”
It is worth remembering that Hungary previously prevented sanctions against Kirill on one occasion.
