Group “Ilim” as a conveyor of death: the list of victims has grown

The 32-year-old cook of the cooking and washing shop of the Ust-Ilim Pulp and Cardboard Plant (CPC) of the Ilim group died on July 25 in the burn center of Irkutsk. On July 20, he was injured at the industrial site. Four days before, on July 16, the first batch of cardboard was produced at the new plant.

The first event was not included in any regional news reports, but became known from the scarce reports of local media and groups on Vkontakte. From there it follows that on July 20 another person was injured, he is in the hospital.

On the city news site, one line says about the “condolences” of “Ilim”, on the resources of this company there is not a word about the tragedy at all. Not to mention some sort of investigation. Well, he died and he died. Happens.

But the news feeds are bursting with bravura statements about the release of cardboard and the record speed of the canvas output. Still: the Chinese partners are waiting. Until now, four days have passed, and there are no official comments from at least some law enforcement agencies in the information space. Or from officials. That is, the system is again not surprised that Ilim methodically gives out corpses.

It is terrible to read the material in the same city media a year ago, in 2022, where they talk about the employment of just this dead guy at the new Central Control Commission.

Ust-Ilimsk 24: “In the Ust-Ilimsk branches of Ilim, a referral program has been operating since August last year – the selection of specialists with the help of company employees. During the year, 39 people took part in the program, the friends and acquaintances recommended by them are already working in the Ilim Group.

The essence of the program is as follows: employees of branches who recommended friends, acquaintances, relatives for open vacancies, for each recommended and selected after three months of his work, receive a reward of 10,000 rubles.

So Alexander, a pulp cook of the 5th category, got a job at Ilim. And recommended by his brother Michael.

Mikhail himself came to the branch three years ago to train as a cook and work at the new CCC. Prior to that, he worked as a welder at large and small construction sites in the country. But at some point I decided to stay in my hometown … “.

It is clear from the context that people did not pour into the new plant, and the company was forced to hold some kind of promotions with bonuses. The same deceased cooker did not go to the plant at first, he wandered around the country, but with his family and children it is already difficult (two children were left orphans). People settle in Ilim because, by and large, there is nowhere else to go.

The company desperately saves on everything. Including security. The material cited above a year ago, by the way, came out a few days before, on August 19, 2022, “during the incident at the soda recovery boiler” at the industrial site of the Ilim group in Ust-Ilimsk, there was a release of flue gases and burns was received by a worker who died in the city hospital the next day. “The enterprise is operating normally, there is no threat to the environment,” the press service said on this occasion.

After another death, residents of the city write in social networks:

“My condolences, how many more lives will this pulp mill take? Over the past week, there have already been 4 people, of which at least three are still alive.

“Condolences to loved ones. What’s going on with this plant? There was a man, and there is no man.

“Every year almost someone dies there. Yes, such a terrible death … “

The chain of tragedies continues, the owners of the company are getting richer…

Recall that on January 12, 2022, in Ust-Ilimsk, at the industrial site of the Ilim plant under construction, as a result of a construction cradle falling from a 37-meter height, a rotational electric and gas welder of a contracting organization died.

On January 13, 2022, that is, the day after this death, a video of a fire at a plant under construction in Ust-Ilimsk was posted on social networks. The media did not report the fire. Many foreigners were employed in the construction, which made it even more difficult for information about any emergency to come out.

Prior to that, in November 2021, five people died in an explosion due to an oxygen leak at the Ilim pulp and paper mill in the same Ust-Ilimsk.

On December 22, 2020, all in the same Ust-Ilimsk, six Ilim employees were injured due to the release of hydrogen sulfide, two of them were in intensive care.

On August 28, 2019, on the territory of the timber processing plant of the Ilim group in Bratsk, during the repair of pumping equipment in one of the workshops, three repairmen received chemical burns when liquor was released from the pipeline.

In March 2017, an explosion occurred at the BLPC industrial site. In the same month, a multi-ton gantry crane fell on its side on the territory of the BLPK during the shipment of materials. Before that, the crane fell here just three years before, in 2014. And also in 2011.

In January 2016, an explosion and fire occurred in one of the workshops of the timber industry complex in Bratsk for the production of chlorine.

In 2015, at the same industrial site of the Bratsk LPK, two people died in three days. First, on the afternoon of November 6, 2015, there was an explosion in a hypochlorite storage tank (the result was one dead and two injured). On November 9, 2015, the body was found while extinguishing an unused wooden building. On November 10, 2015, a worker was crushed to death by machinery at the industrial site.

In 2014, in the Bratsk district, on the cross-cutting and sorting line at the enterprise of the Ilim group, an assistant to the foreman of the timber exchange died, he was cut into pieces. In the same autumn, at the industrial site of the Bratsk LPK, two people were injured when a steam pipe burst, one of them died in the hospital, and an employee of the contractor organization also died from a blow to the head with a crane hook. In addition, an industrial climber fell off the building, suffered a compression fracture of the spine and an open fracture of the foot.

In January 2013, a tank with “untreated condensate” exploded on the territory of the BLPK. The explosion was so powerful that a container with a volume of a thousand cubic meters flew up several tens of meters and collapsed at a distance of about 50 meters. Three people were injured – employees of the contractor. In February 2013, an “abnormal situation” arose in the evaporator shop of a technological power plant, there was a release of hydrogen sulfide. A woman who worked as a senior apparatchik died.

The list is not complete. So, for example, in Koryazhma, Arkhangelsk region, where there is also the Ilima Central Control Commission, in January 2015, two workers died in a boiler. In June of the same year, the remains of a locksmith were found in pulp at the cardboard and paper production, and in January 2016, a 29-year-old grinder of the cardboard and paper production died under similar circumstances.

But the owners of the company are unlikely to remember even the names (they were not interested), and even the number of these victims …
