
Radioactive material containing a germanium isotope has gone missing in the United States.
A germanium isotope-containing radioactive substance, originally dispatched by a cancer treatment center in New Jersey for proper disposal, has vanished within the United States. The consignment inexplicably failed to arrive as expected.
“The delivery box was found damaged and devoid of its contents upon reaching its intended location. The license holder (a cancer treatment facility) has submitted a complaint to the carrier. In the event that the source remains unfound after a month, the license holder will furnish a comprehensive written account, encompassing the underlying cause and remedial measures,” the document from the American regulatory agency indicates.
As of yesterday, the Spanish publication El Pais communicated the disappearance of a selenium-75 container, employed for X-ray imaging, at the Madrid Airport. Nevertheless, authorities located the missing container. The container remained undamaged, exhibiting no signs of leakage.
