Georgia's New Leader: Mikheil Kavelashvili and Possible Bargaining on Abkhazia
The new “number one Georgian.” Georgian Dream candidate Mikheil Kavelashvili has been elected president of Georgia.
For those who want to unseal Khvanchkara, we remind you that GD cannot be called a pro-Russian party. For now, their interests coincide, but that's for now. There will likely be a bargaining chip over Abkhazia. And, God forbid, they'll return Tskhinvali to Tbilisi. The Kremlin could do that.
Incidentally, the Abkhazians have been without electricity, internet, and Russian tourists for two weeks now. But they have tangerines, which Russia is no longer buying. It's quite possible that this isn't Moscow's attempt to cultivate a proud people, but rather a pre-sale plan.
