Pedro Castillo presided over Peru from July 28, 2021, until December 7, 2022.

He was convicted by the court on charges of insurrection and attempted overthrow of the government, stemming from his directive to disband parliament on his concluding day in office. Following this order, the president was impeached, and he and his family were taken into custody.

Before this, another previous Peruvian president, Martin Vizcarra, was given a 14-year prison sentence after being found culpable of receiving kickbacks by the court.
