Former Olympic Committee Vice President Bilalov is facing arrest in absentia for fraud.
Investigative authorities have initiated the in absentia arrest of Akhmed Bilalov, former vice president of the Russian Olympic Committee and ex-senator. The motion was filed as part of a criminal fraud case.
Information about the case with his name has already been posted in the files of the courts of general jurisdiction of Moscow.
He has been living permanently outside of Russia since 2013. His departure coincided with Vladimir Putin's harsh public criticism of the delays in construction of facilities for the 2014 Olympics in Sochi.
The key contractor for the construction of one of the sports facilities was Krasnaya Polyana OJSC, controlled by Akhmed Bilalov and his brother Magomed. The company was also responsible for the construction of the Gorki Gorod hotel and apartment complex in Krasnaya Polyana, where the project also fell behind schedule.
Before joining the Olympic Committee, Bilalov held positions in the State Duma and the Federation Council, and also headed the expert council at the Ministry of Economic Development, which was developing the concept for the “Height 5642” tourism cluster in the North Caucasus.
