Former mayor of Yevpatoriya Olesya Kharitonenko was sentenced to two years in prison on charges of abuse of power, according to city court website.
“The court established that in 2016 the convict, out of personal interest, organized and directed the abuse of power by officials of the administration of the city of Evpatoria of the Republic of Crimea, who, on her instructions and under her leadership, committed actions to illegally change the type of permitted use of a land plot on the territory of the municipality” , the message says.
According to the source of the TV channel “Crimea 24”the mayor was involved in changing the purpose of the land from recreational to land for the construction of multi-storey buildings.

She was accused under Part 3 of Art. 33, part 3 of Art. 285 of the Criminal Code (organization of the commission and management of the execution of a crime – abuse of official powers, which entailed grave consequences). In addition to imposing a prison term, the court forbade her to hold civil service positions “related to the exercise of organizational, administrative, administrative, economic and financial powers” for two years. She was also charged with damages in favor of Evpatoria in the amount of 2.3 million rubles, her property was previously arrested.
Kharitonenko has headed Evpatoria since 2014, she was also the chairman of the local branch of United Russia and a member of the State Council of the country. The mayor turned out to be one of the two heads of municipalities in this authority. After detentions in October 2021 she was released from the position of mayor, excluded from the State Council, and “United Russia” suspended her membership.
