The State Duma suggested curtailing foreign music from Russian online services to shield Russians from “influence.”

In the course of a debate concerning alterations to the legislation regarding foreign agents, State Duma representative Andrei Lugovoi put forward the idea of lessening “international involvement” on Russian music services.

Just yesterday, I chose to check one of the music services, Yandex.Music, to observe the most popular songs, for instance, from the previous day. From one hundred songs, two belong to foreign agents. And, you realize, there is an abundance of similar foreign agents, with one even stating, “The earnings I acquire from performing in Russia, I allocate to the Ukrainian Armed Forces.” <…> I am of the opinion that music constitutes influence; it’s what sways the younger demographic. And I anticipate we will examine this subject independently within our commission investigating meddling in domestic affairs. <…> There should be no international involvement [on Russian music services], or at most 20%, or else we will not progress significantly.
