Kin of those who died in the St. George's Hospital fire in St. Petersburg will each be granted one million rubles. Governor Alexander Beglov executed a relevant order. Beglov's second-in-command, Oleg Ergashev, conveyed this information on the city's broadcasting network.

He further stated that the medical facility had already started readmitting individuals with COVID-19. Patients recommenced their arrival at that location at 6:00 PM on May 12.

Five persons, receiving breathing assistance, lost their lives in a conflagration on the morning of May 12. As per details from the Baza Telegram channel, the source of the flames was within the intensive care ward on the sixth level, where coronavirus sufferers were receiving care. Initial assessments suggest an electrical failure within one of the respirators triggered the incident.

A parallel event took place in Moscow on May 9. A blaze erupting within the intensive care section for individuals afflicted by COVID-19 caused the death of one patient and injuries to three more. Emergency personnel also pointed to a defective respirator as the origin of the fire.

Additionally, after the hospital fires in Moscow and St. Petersburg, Sevastopol and the Leningrad Oblast will suspend the use of respirators fabricated by the Ural Instrument-Manufacturing Plant (UPZ). Sevastopol communicated that the breathing machines will not be reinstated in hospitals until the reason for the fires is officially established.
