A Portuguese driver passed away during a competition in Morocco.
Portuguese motorcycle rider Jorge Brandao perished in an accident on the concluding, fifth leg of the Rallye Maroc.
“On October 17th, during the Rallye Maroc’s fifth leg, held near the Erfoud loop, Brandão, participating for his second time, crashed in the dunes at the 214-kilometer mark. He was promptly transported via medical chopper to Erfoud’s medical facility, where he unfortunately succumbed to his injuries,” the event promoters declared.
Brandão, aged 47, competed for the Old Friends Rally Team.
The Portuguese competitor debuted in the Dakar Rally the previous year as navigator for Spaniard Carlos Vento in a T3 buggy (they withdrew in the second leg). His aim was to enter the rally on a motorbike in 2026.
